Druk Path Trek is an amazing destination for visitors who have great aspirations to get to the ancient high level route between Paro and Thimphu, and discover Bhutan in a short duration.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 01

    Arrival at Paro Airport

    Getting to Paro Airport, you can take flight from several destinations: Bangkok, Kathmandu, New Delhi and others. We recommend you to fly from Bangkok as the Druk Air, a full service carrier, operates its regular flight everyday to Paro.

    As the passenger aircraft flew past the Himalayan peaks, you can enjoy magnificent views of mountains and the valleys. Surrounded by a beautiful valley with the airport below, Paro is a beautiful place with its ancient fortress like dzong, rice fields and cultivated lands for growing fruits and vegetables.

    Upon your arrival, our Bhutanese tour guide welcomes you at the airport and then transfers to the hotel. On this day, we pay a visit to Paro Dzong and the National Museum. In the evening, we stroll around Paro’s main shopping district.

  • Day 02

    Day excursion from Paro to Taktsang Monastery

    Today, we visit the Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). It was already marked out as an important cultural heritage site in Bhutan and a popular Buddhist pilgrimage site. The Taktsang Monastery was founded in 1692, which is believed that Guru Padmasambhava meditated here for four months in the 8th century. Legend has it that he set out on the back of a flying tigress to locate an ideal place, followed him atop a beautiful cave of a sheer rock cliff where he meditated and emerged in eight incarnations. This will take about 5 hours for a round trip and we have some leisure time to take rest in the evening.

  • Day 03

    Trek from Paro to Jele Dzong (3,436m)

    Distance: 8 kms

    Duration: 5 hrs

    Our trek commences today. Starting above the National Museum, the trail route gradually rises along the beautiful Paro Valley. You will enjoy the spectacular Himalayan peaks on a clear day. Today is a short hike for 5 hours, and in the evening we pay a visit to Jele Dzong.

  • Day 04

    Trek to Jangchulakha (3,962m)

    Distance: 9 kms

    Duration: 5 hrs

    We begin our hike with a steady climb uphill and then through alpine forests filled with rhododendrons. Along the route, you will enjoy picturesque views of monal pheasants, yak herders camp and snow capped peaks. After continuous hike up and down along the ridge, we reach our campsite at Jangchulakha.

  • Day 05

    Trek to Jimilang Tsho ( 3,880m)

    Distance: 10 kms 

    Duration:  6 hrs

    Today, we hike up the ridge, and through the forests that lead to Jangchu La. En route, you can enjoy the beautiful landscapes of the valley and mountains. The trip concludes today at Jimilangtsho Lake where we spend a night there.

  • Day 06

    Trek to Simkotra (4,090m)

    Distance: 7 kms 

    Duration: 4 hrs

    After breakfast, we hike through the forest of junipers and continue gradually through Lake Janetsho. The trek route follows yak herders camp before arriving at the camp at Lake Simkotra.

    Overnight at tented camps. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

  • Day 07

    Trek to Thimphu via Phajoding

    Distance: 14 kms

    Duration: 7 hrs

    Today, the trail follows a gradual climb uphill that starts right from the lake. On a clear weather day, you will enjoy the picturesque views of Mt. Gangker Phuensum and neighboring peaks. After walking downhill for a bit, we come across Phajoding Monastery before arriving at Thimphu.

  • Day 08

    Drive from Thimphu to Paro

    Full day sightseeing of the Thimphu valley. Visit to National Library, Traditional Medicine Institute, Arts & Crafts School, Textile and Folk Heritage Museum, National Memorial Chorten, Zilukha Nunnery, Traditional paper factory, Zilukha Nunnery, Takin mini Zoo, Handicrafts Emporium, local shops. Finally a visit to Tashichho dzong. Evening departure to Paro. 

    Overnight at a hotel. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

  • Day 09

    Final departure.

    The trip ends today. Our airport representative will drop you to the Paro International Airport for your final departure.

FAQs

    • How fit do I have to be and is this trek for me?

      This trek is suitable for any kind of person, and no previous experience is required. If you are a fit and healthy person, then you can do this trek. We recommend you to engage in some forms of physical fitness activities such as running, swimming, cycling, hiking etc. that helps to build the stamina and endurance required for this trek.

    • Will somebody come to pick me up at the airport upon my arrival?

      Yes, our airport representative will be there to greet you at the airport. S/he will be displaying a signboard with your name on it. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel.

    • What sort of accommodation conveniences can I expect on this trek?

      We provide hotels and camping tent accommodation during this trek. All Government approved hotels are clean and well maintained with hot and cool water, telephones with international dialing and fax facilities. We use three to four star hotels for this trip in places like Paro and Thimphu. Along the trekking routes, you will stay in a comfortable two person tented camp. Other facilities include the kitchen, dining, shower, toilet tents, chairs, tables and a bucket of hot water for a quick scrub up during your stay.

    • What kind of food can I expect on this trek?

      Most of the restaurants serve Bhutanese, Indian, Chinese and Continental cuisine, always plenty to choose from. During your camping stay, our cook will prepare Bhutanese, Indian, Chinese and Continental food. If you have any special dietary requirements please advise us in advance so that we can make the necessary arrangements.

    • What mode of transportation do you use?

      We use comfortable and reliable Japanese Toyota SUVs, micro-buses and coaches to transport our guests. All our drivers are licensed by the Road surface transport authority (RSTA). Our vehicles are also certified and inspected by the RSTA frequently to comply with the road worthiness and safety standards. The guests will have a vehicle, a guide and a driver at their disposal at all times. Along the trekking routes, we use horses, donkeys or yaks to carry the food, luggage and camping equipment from one place to another.

    • What is the best time for this trek?

      The best time for this trek is March, April, May, September, October and November.

    • What is the weather and temperature like on this trip?

      It depends on the season you’re travelling. The weather in the mountains is notoriously difficult to predict. Nights are generally colder (-2°C to -15°C) than the daytime (5°C to 30°C). It is also important to make sure that you stay warm and dry in just about any conditions. Expect the unexpected! depending on season the temperature could range from -10°C to 30°C.

    • I am a vegetarian, is that a problem?

      No problem at all because our camping cooks will mostly serve the vegetarian meals. We always recommend our clients to eat vegetarian meals to avoid food poisoning, eating heavy meals and non- vegetarian meals at the high altitude is not really safe for the stomach.

    • Can I charge my electronic gadgets during this trip?

      Charging facilities are available in cities in your hotel but not available during the trek. Remember to bring travel adapters with you.

    • Are there any Photography restrictions?

      You will have many photo opportunities during the trek. Please ask for permission before taking a person’s photo. Photography in monasteries, shrine rooms of Dzongs and religious institutions is generally not permitted, but outdoor photography is. To be sure when visiting such places, you may consult with your guide just to make sure.

    • Are there any means of communication and internet access during this trek?

      Telephones, international calls and internet facilities are readily available in most of the town during this trip but these facilities are limited along the camping route.

    • Can I use credit cards in the places I visit during the trek?

      There are just a few ATM’s in Bhutan for credit cards (Master card / Maestro). Only a few establishments in Bhutan accept credit card payments. Hence, US Dollars (cash or Amex travelers cheques) or Euros Cash is suggested and convenient to cover any personal expenses (eg. beverages, laundry, phone bills, tipping, shopping etc).

    • How much spending money do I need per day?

      It depends on your spending habits. Generally, all the foods, accommodation and hot drinks are included in the price. You can allocate USD 10 to USD 15 for snacks, chocolates and a few drinks during the trip.

    • What is the weight limit for Druk Air flights?

      Druk Air allows only up to 20 kgs of luggage per person, after which the excess baggage charge is USD 5 per kg.

    • Do your guides have certificates from the Hotel Management and Tourism Center? Have they received first aid training for high altitude?

      Yes, all our guides have received a 45-day training from the Hotel Management and Tourism Center. The guides have also received high altitude first aid training.

    • Do I need to obtain Visas for Bhutan?

      We will handle the visa procedures for you. The Govt. will sanction the VISA only after the receipt of full payment in advance. The visa fee is included with our trip price. Actual Bhutan VISA will be stamped in your passport on arrival at Paro airport. Without a visa clearance number, tourists cannot board the flight or enter the country. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs forwards a copy of this visa clearance to the concerned Druk Air stations and other entry points; we also fax a copy of the visa clearance document to our clients for their reference. While the actual visa is stamped on arrival, the initial visa clearance is also required at the time of issuing Druk Air Tickets. All you need is to carry 2 copies of original passport-sized photographs, which are required on arrival in the country. Please email us the clear color copy of the passport for the visa procedures.

    • Do we book our international flights and Druk Air flights?

      Yes, you need to book your own International flights. We are a local agent and it would cost you significantly higher to book through us. Please find more information in the International Flight page. Druk air is the only airline to and from Bhutan. We can ebook the Druk air flight to and from Bhutan and e-mail you the e-ticket. Druk air flight cost is not included in the trip price. Druk air flights cost are different as per the flights sectors that you are taking. Druk air offers flights from the following location. We recommend you to book your flight to Bangkok as they have every day flights to and from Paro. Please let us know which route is more convenient to you, the cost of the flights are as below.     • Do I need to tip my guide and porters? How much would that be?

      Well, tips/gratuity is customary in the trip and highly appreciated. Moreover, it’s personal and a great way to show admiration for all those involved in the trip, their hard work and devotion to make your journey a pleasant one. We have seen our previous clients tipping from USD 20- USD 1000 per person for guides. In general, we suggest spending at least 10% of the cost of the trip for tipping guides and drivers.

    • Is the water fine to drink? Do I need to bring purifying tablets/filters?

      The trip price included the drinking water for the all Bhutan trip. You don’t need to bring purifying tablets/filters or pay for the water.

    • Are Trekking to Nepal’s staff insured?

      Yes, our entire staff are insured that includes trekking/tour guides, cooks, Sherpa and porters.

    • What essential documents do I need to bring with me?

    • Can I add extra days to my trip?

      No, because we can’t change your Druk air flight once it is booked.

    • I would like to extend my holiday, any recommendations?

      Yes, there are so many options and choices available to extend your holiday before or after the trek. For more information, please visit our website.

    • Is there a minimum number and a maximum number for your groups?

      We cater to all group sizes, while maintaining the field staff ratio to give you the best quality and experience.

    • Are there any laundry services available on this trip?

      Laundry service is difficult to find in trekking routes, except cities. Please note that laundry service is not included in the package price.

    • What immunizations will I need?

      No vaccinations are compulsory for traveling in Nepal, but we do recommend you are covered for diphtheria & TB, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, *malaria, typhoid, polio and tetanus. We recommend a dental check-up prior to traveling and you know your blood group in case of emergency. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions which might affect you on trek, you make these known to your trek leader and us at the time of your booking.

Equipment Lists

For the Druk Path Trek for 9days, you should bring comfortable clothes. You should consider the time of the year you are travelling to choose the right clothing and equipment for this trip.

Packing Suggestions

  • If you are going to Bhutan from Kathmandu, we provide you a complimentary duffel bag in Kathmandu, where you can pack the essential equipment and use it for shopping purposes.
  • The duffel bag is carried by the porters during the trek. 
  • You need to carry your own backpack (with waterproof cover) where you can carry your daily essential items. For instance: money, important documents, water bottle/bladder, camera, toiletries, sunscreen, notebook, etc.
  • The total luggage allotment is 20 kg per person for Druk Air flight.
  • Sleeping bags and down jackets are optional, that you can rent on a returnable basis. 

You can store your luggage at the Hotel lockers, if not required during the trek.

Trekking to Nepal is owned and operated by Ace the Himalaya, a reputed trekking and tour company based in Kathmandu, Nepal.

These booking terms and conditions mentioned here establish a legally binding contract between Ace the Himalaya and you (Client) for our services. Please read our terms and conditions carefully prior to booking a trip with us.

Bookings (Nepal and India Trips)

You can process a booking via our website, our third-party websites or email us at [email protected].

Our trip prices are in USD. If you are booking the trip with us and making payment in your local currency, then the same day exchange rate set by Nepal’s Central Bank is applicable when converting your local currency into USD.

  • You should provide us a completed booking form, a copy of your passport along with a 30% deposit of the total trip cost.
  • THE 30% DEPOSIT IS NONREFUNDABLE.
  • For Nepal trips, the remaining amount can be paid in USD/Credit card on your arrival day or pre-trip meeting at our office or hotel.
  • While for an India trip, the remaining balance should be paid in USD by bank transfer or Credit card at least 20 days prior to the trip departure date.

Bookings (Bhutan and Tibet Trips)

  • You should provide us a completed booking form, a copy of your passport along with a 50% deposit of the total trip cost.
  • THE 50% DEPOSIT IS NONREFUNDABLE.
  • The remaining balance should be paid in USD/Credit card a minimum of 20 days before the trip departure date.

Last Minute Booking

  • For Nepal and India trips, we accept the last minute booking 10 days prior to the trip departure date, only if we have space available for the trip and full payment is then required.
  • For Bhutan and Tibet trips, we will accept your last minute booking 20 days prior to the tour departure date; full payment is then required.

Cancellation and Refund Policy (Nepal and India Trips)

  • You should provide us a valid written notice via email a minimum of 20 days prior to the trip departure date. Cancellation is valid with approval only after receiving the notice.
  • Cancellation of the trip 20 days prior to the trip departure date, then 30% of the trip amount would be deducted from the advance paid and the remaining amount after the deduction would be refunded.
  • Cancellation of the trip made less than 20 days notice prior to the trip departure date, there will be a 100% charge applicable (no refund policy). If you cancel the trip and need to submit a claim to your insurance company, we can help with the supporting documentation such as a receipt for monies paid.

If you cancel the trip and need to submit a claim to your insurance company, we can help with the supporting documentation such as a receipt for monies paid.

Reschedule the Trip (Nepal, India and Bhutan)

  • You should provide us with written notice including reasons that make you unable to travel via email 20 days prior to the trip departure date. If you are preponing the trip, you should notify us in writing 20 days prior to your new departure date.
  • A FEE OF USD 200 PER PERSON WILL BE CHARGED IF YOU POSTPONE OR PREPONE OR TRANSFER YOUR TRIP TO ANOTHER PERSON NO LESS THAN 20 DAYS PRIOR TO THE TRIP DEPARTURE DATE. THE CLIENT IS RESPONSIBLE TO FIND ANOTHER PERSON FOR TRANSFERRING HIS/HER TRIP.

Reschedule the Trip (Tibet)

  • You should provide us with written notice including reasons that make you unable to travel via email 30 days prior to the trip departure date. If you are preponing the trip, you should notify us in writing 30 days prior to your new departure date.
  • A FEE OF USD 200 PER PERSON WILL BE CHARGED IF YOU POSTPONE OR PREPONE OR TRANSFER YOUR TRIP TO ANOTHER PERSON NO LESS THAN 30 DAYS PRIOR TO THE TRIP DEPARTURE DATE. THE CLIENT IS RESPONSIBLE TO FIND ANOTHER PERSON FOR TRANSFERRING HIS/HER TRIP.

INCOMPLETE TRIP

IN CASE OF ANY FAILURE TO COMPLETE THE TRIP, FOR WHATEVER REASON, BY THE CLIENTS, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY REFUNDS FOR ANY MEALS, ACCOMMODATION OR ANY SERVICES NOT USED DURING THE TRIP. FURTHER, IF YOU COMMIT ANY UNLAWFUL ACT DURING THE TRIP AND ARE COMPELLED TO LEAVE NEPAL, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY REFUNDS.

Passport and Visas (Nepal and India)

  • A valid passport is needed with a minimum validity of 6 months from the return date.
  • A Nepalese visa can be obtained from the Nepalese Consulate in your country or upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport. Nepalese visa costs are the sole responsibility of clients. For more details, please read this link about Nepalese Tourist Visa.
  • You can fill in the Nepalese Tourist Visa form online. Here is a link- Department of Immigration. The online form will be valid for 15 days, which means you must fill it in less than 15 days before your arrival date. You will receive a receipt by your email after filling in the form. You should print the receipt and keep it with you as you need to produce it before the immigration authority.
  • For Indian visas and cost, please contact the Indian embassy in your home/resident country. There is no on arrival visa facility for Indian visas.

Passport and Visas (Bhutan and Tibet)

  • A valid passport is needed with a minimum validity of 6 months from the return date.
  • As you are unable to obtain visas to Bhutan and Tibet directly, Bhutan as well as Tibet permit and visa will be organized by Ace the Himalaya. This cost is all included in the trip price.
  • To facilitate this, you need to send a clear, color scanned copy of your passport to us via email at the time of booking.

RISK AND LIABILITIES

ALL OUR NEPAL, INDIA, BHUTAN AND TIBET TOURS ARE CONDUCTED BY FOLLOWING THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE TOURISM BOARD OF THE RESPECTIVE COUNTRY. ACE THE HIMALAYA WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CHANGES IN ITINERARIES DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES THAT ARE BEYOND OUR CONTROL. FOR INSTANCE: LAST MINUTE CHANGE IN GOVERNMENT RULES, LOCAL POLITICS, GOVERNMENT RESTRICTION, BAD WEATHER, ILL HEALTH CONDITION OF TREKKERS, DEATH, ROAD BLOCKAGE, FLIGHT DELAY/CANCELLATION, NATURAL DISASTERS (EARTHQUAKE, LANDSLIDE, FLOOD, SNOWFALL, AVALANCHE, ETC) AND ANY OTHER THINGS BEYOND OUR CONTROL. ANY ADDITIONAL EXPENSES NECESSITATED BY SUCH AN EVENT WILL BE BORNE BY THE CLIENT/S. FURTHER, WE RECOMMEND YOU TO HAVE TRAVEL INSURANCE WHILE TRAVELING IN NEPAL.

Travel Insurance

Having Travel Insurance is compulsory for all clients while traveling with us. The travel insurance must cover weather delays, personal injury, death, medical expenses, repatriation expenses, helicopter rescue, air ambulance, trip cancellations, natural disasters, theft of baggage, loss of gear and equipment etc.

Domestic flight delay/Cancellation

Generally, due to bad weather conditions and poor visibility, flight delays or cancellation are likely to happen in mountain countries/regions. In such a case, we are not liable for any extra expenses or inconveniences. Since the weather of the mountain region is quite unpredictable, we suggest you arrange a minimum of 1 or 2 extra days (especially Everest region treks) so that you won’t miss your International flight. Further, we suggest you bring some extra cash to prepare for unforeseen circumstances.

Changes to your trip and price due to natural disasters, flight delay etc.

In the event of cancellations/changes of the trip due to any unforeseen circumstances like natural disasters, flight delay etc., we will arrange another trip for you of the same price value. Also, you are free to reschedule the trip. While rescheduling the trip of either the same price value or higher value, you need to pay the amount of used services from your previously booked trip. Similarly, if the price increases for the rescheduled departure, you will pay the difference between new prices and old prices.

Most of our trip packages are based on twin-sharing accommodation. Furthermore, a single-room supplement charge will be imposed on the clients who don’t have another tour participant to share accommodation with.

Likewise, we reserve the right to revise pricing rates posted in our marketing material under any circumstances or on the pressure of various external factors like changes in exchange rate, government action, etc. which are far from our control.

Health and Fitness

You should be physically and mentally fit when trekking in high altitude regions. Therefore, we suggest you undergo a medical examination with a general practitioner (GP) regarding your health and fitness before traveling with us. If you have any preexisting medical conditions or disabilities, please notify us at the time of booking.

Children

A legal guardian/parent must accompany the participant below the age of sixteen.

Privacy

Ace the Himalaya is concerned to protect the privacy and confidentiality of your personal information. No private or personal information that you provided to us when booking will be disclosed for any other purposes.

PUBLICITY

YOU AGREE THAT ACE THE HIMALAYA MAY USE IMAGES OF YOU TAKEN DURING THE TRIP WITHOUT RECOURSE TO YOU AND WITHOUT COMPENSATION TO YOU, FOR PUBLICITY AND PROMOTION PURPOSES THROUGH WHATEVER MEDIUM IT CHOOSES.

Complaints

Should you have a complaint about the trip, make it known to our staff at the earliest opportunity, so that s/he may take appropriate actions to resolve it. Your satisfaction is our top-notch priority.

Acceptance of Terms

These terms and conditions are valid only if you book the trip with us directly. If you book our trip through a third party or any agents, you are liable to their terms and conditions as well as our terms and conditions.

Applicable Law and Choice of Forum

Ace the Himalaya main office is located in Kathmandu, Nepal. These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of Nepal. Any dispute arising out of these terms and conditions shall be resolved exclusively by the District Court, Appellate Court, and Supreme Court located in Kathmandu, Nepal. There is no case in a foreign country, and the parties agree that the court of Nepal is the appropriate forum for any claim or proceeding commenced in relation to these terms and conditions.

Druk air flight costs are not included in the trip price. Druk air flights cost are different as per the flights sectors that you are taking.
