  Poon Hill and Ghorepani Trek - 11 Days.  

The Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trek starts and ends in Pokhara, a colourful foray into the Annapurna region. The trail winds through patchwork valleys, dense mossy forests and past icy waterfalls where you can stop to cool your face. Around every corner is a tantalizing glimpse of the high mountains, whole horizons of which will be revealed to you as you reach the high points of your trek. Trekking in the Annapurna foothills to the view point at Poon Hill offering you unobstructed mountain views.

An easy trek in the spectacular mountain scenery through charming villages inhabited by the Gurungs, Magars dense rhododendron forests full of birds and deep sub-tropical valleys, all set below the Annapurnas with the picturesque Peak of Machhapuchhare (Fish Tail Peak) dominating the skyline. This trekking is not recommended during the raining season.

Itinerary in Details
Day 01- Arrival at KathmanduAirport.
There you will be met by our Airport Representative and transferred to hotel by private tourist vehicle. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02- Sightseeing around Kathmandu valley.
Your sightseeing trip will start at 9 AM in the morning after breakfast. We will provide a private vehicle and professional tour guide. We visit Pasupatinath temple, Buddhanath, Monkey temple, Bhaktpur durbar square and Kathmandu durbar square. The afternoon includes a final briefing and preparations for the trek. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03- Drive to Pokhara (900 meters) 7 hours by tourist bus.
Trekking staff will come to your Hotel early in the morning at 6:30 am to pick you up then leaving  around 7.30 am to Pokhara. Overnight at hotel.

Day 04- Drive to Nayapul (1010meters) and trek to Tikhedunga (1570meters) 3 hours.
We begin our trek at Nayapul after 1 hour driving by private vehicle from Pokhara. After 15 minutes short walk along the bank of the Modi Khola, we reach Birethanti (1015meters) a large village that has many shops and teahouses. From there, the trail continues through the village. The trail follows the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola. From there, the trail climbs steadily up the side of the valley to Hille at 1495m and after the short climb, we reach Tikhedhunga at 1570meters. Today’s walk offers a short and relatively easy day, during the journey which allows us to become used to the experience of trekking in Nepal. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 05- Trek to Ghorepani (2840meters) 5 hours.
Leaving Tikhedunga, we begin our journey with a steep climb to Ulleri. Ulleri is a large Magar village at 2070meters. The trail then continues to ascend more gently, through fine forests of oak and rhododendrons towards Banthanti at 2250meters. Then we trek towards Nangethanti at 2460m. After an hour of walking this brings you to Ghorepani at 2840meters. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 06- Hike up to Poon Hill (3210meters) and trek to Tadapani (2610meters). 6 hours.
Today, very early in the morning, we start an hour hiking to Poon Hill at elevation of 3210meters, a brilliant spectacle; this vantage point provides an unobstructed view of sunrise over the high Himalayas. There we spend about 1 hour, we then return to Ghorepani we take a hot breakfast at the hotel then we trek to Tadapani (2610meters). Along the trail towards Tadapani, we make climb along ridges and through pine and rhododendron forests to Deurali (2960meters). After that we descend to the Banthanti, we then turn off to Tadapani. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 07- Trek to Ghandruk (1940meters.) 4 hours.
From Tadapani the trail descends through forests to Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a village of Gurung people, one of the ethnic groups of Nepal; they have their own dialect, culture, costume, and life style. Ghandruk is also home to many Gurkha soldiers. It is a famous destination for trekkers as it is known for its beautiful mountain views and within easy reach from Pokhara and Kathmandu. We have the afternoon to visit the Annapurna conservation office, Museum and explore the village. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 08- Trek to Nayapul (1010 meters) and drive to Pokhara.
Today, we are going to end our trek at Nayapul after a short drive back to Pokhara. Overnight at hotel.

Day 09- PokharaCity tour.
Your sightseeing trip will start at 9 AM in the morning after breakfast. Places we visit are Fewa Lake, Bagnes Lake, Devi’s water fall, Museum, Tibetan refugee settlement and Gupteshower cave. You will have relaxing afternoon. Overnight at hotel.

Day 10- Drive back to Kathmandu (1345meters).
Overnight back at the hotel in Kathmandu. If you are interested in continuing onto Chitwan Jungle Safari, River Rafting Adventure, Kathmandu Shopping Tour or Scenic Everest Flight

Day 11- Transfer to international airport for your final departure.
The trip ends, our Airport Representative will drop you to the Kathmandu International Airport for your flight departure from Nepal.

Frequently Asked Questions for Poon Hill Ghorepani Trek

Q. What type of shape do I need to be in, is this trip for me?
A. Poon hill Ghorepani trek is suitable for any kind of person, no previous experience is required. To condition yourself for the trek, some physical fitness programs such as walking, running, swimming, and hiking are recommended before you embark on your journey. Any person suffering from a pre-existing medical condition or diseases must seek medical advice before considering trek.

Q. What sort of accommodation can I expect in Kathmandu, Pokhara and in trekking?
A. We use standard rooms from four or five star hotels in Kathmandu with breakfast included. In Pokhara we use standard rooms from two/three star hotels with breakfast included. Along the trekking routes teahouses/Lodges generally provide basic clean facilities with a mattress and a quilt or blanket. We can also offer you Ace the Himalaya sleeping bags if needed (which need to return after the trip) but it is good idea to always have your own sleeping equipment. We usually provide single and double rooms as well as the occasional dormitory.

Q. What sort of food can I expect in trekking?
A. Most teahouses (lodges) cook a delicious range of mostly vegetarian fare. Pasta, tuna bakes, noodles, potatoes, eggs, dhal bhat, bread, soups, fresh vegetables (variety depends on the season) and even some desserts like apple pies, pancakes, and some interesting attempts at custard. You will find a lot of garlic on the menu because it assists with acclimatization – eat some every day. In many larger villages you may find some meat on the menu. You can always get hot chocolate, tea, and hot lemon drinks, as well as soft drinks, and treats like chocolate and crisps.

Q. What is the best season for this trekking?
A. The best time for this trekking is October to December and February to May.

Q. What is the weather & temperature like in trekking?
A. Weather in the mountains is notoriously difficult to predict. At night it is generally cooler the days are generally warm. There will be snow during the month of December and February. It is important to make sure that you can stay warm and dry in just about any conditions. Expect the unexpected! The temperature could be as high as 20 deg C to 0 deg C low.

Q. Can I charge my digital camera or other batteries on my trip?
A. These facilities will be available in most of the places in your hotel reception by paying some service charges. Remember to bring your adapters!

Q. Is the water OK to drink? Do I need to bring purifying tablets/filter?
A. In most places bottled water is readily available. If you wish to drink normal water, you need to use purifying aid, which you will need to bring with you.
